General Notes: James Tillman Ellis of Sumner County, Tennessee, served in Thomas Preston's Company, Colonel Nappers Regiment, General Andrew Jackson's Division from 28 January until 23 May, 1814.

He served as a private against the Creek Indians at Horseshoe Bend and Hickory Flats on the Talapoosa River. James received an honorable discharge at Fayetteville, Lincoln Co, Tennessee. He was given a land bounty of forty acres. He served in the army under the name of James Tilghman Ellis.
